I have a few friends (those that will still talk to me) that live an hour's drive, or so, from Toronto.

Most of these I know as they worked on some of our projects, in the Marianas and a few in The Republic of Korea.

They cared little for the socialism that they had seen take over their nation, just as many of us decry what is/has happened south of your border.

These are good hardworking men, men that worked in mines (offshore) and worked iron. They would constantly complain that they were off laboring a skilled trade in areas that were "anything but home", while their rental properties were filled with the unemployed - on the government dole.

I used to ask them why they would rent to a welfare type, sucking the lifeblood from their hard work.

They always replied that there were just too many of them and something about difficulty "screening".

I would remark that if they didn't take a stand, things would only worsen.

We'd have another beer (one of my closest of the group, didn't like Canadian beer ... always drinking Budweiser).

Unfortunately, now, I see so many of these things happening south of your border ... Point of fact, in 2000 Anno Domini, I returned to the mainland U.S. and was shocked at how things had changed in a decade and a half.

The decade that I've been back, things have only gotten worse.

But, this is my firm belief. Americans, "Heinz 57" that we are, are a resilient race. I believe that, like the Phoenix, we shall emerge from the ashes of this failed socialism stronger than ever.

It may not be in my lifetime. It may not even return to this once great republic in the life of our children. However, I firmly believe that it shall happen and happen it shall.

Perhaps, vastly more rapidly than one can believe. Perhaps in time for me to see it.

BTW: I wasn't attacking your post. Rather, attempting to set it forth with a bit of historical accuracy.
